Blood Angels Contemptor Dreadnought

My favourite Space Marine Chapter of all time, the Blood Angels, have been under the brush once again this week. I am working on a Horus Heresy army at present for a large battle in October. While waiting for the shoulder pads and weapons from Forge World, I decided to paint the Contemptor Dreadnought from Betrayal at Calth to pass the time.

Quick and Easy Dirt Bases

I'm a big fan of the Basius green stuff push molds for basing things, but sometimes you just want a dirt base. Of course you can use sand and gravel stuck in glue for this, but I've gone for something that is possibly even quicker - a sandy paste. This particular one is the Rough Acrylic Paste from Scale 75 but there are loads of different ones from various suppliers.

Phoenix Guard Part 4: Elf skirts!

This week I carry on working on the elf, slowly working my way through his skirts and onto his fancy pants armour!

Q and A with The Noobs!

What?! A Q&A in an odd month? What's going on here?

Well, we decided that it might be fun to set some questions to the current Noobs writing for the blog to get a feel for the differences in how we might approach things in comparison to each other.

Optimum Prime - A study on priming your models

Priming your model is probably the most important part of painting. When I started over 28 years ago there was no such thing as spray primer, and everything was done with a brush. Nowadays, there are a variety of different manufacturers offering spray primers. This blog is a study of spray primers, and how best to use them.

Five Hour Painting Challenge - Bobby B

During my ongoing hiatus from blogging, I decided to take up Necropocalypse's Five Hour Challenge. I wasn't entirely sure what model to go with to do it but after some nudging, I went for Purgatory's Bobby B, their event only model.

Sutton Coldfield model show

On Sunday I was at the Sutton Coldfield Model show and thought I would share with you all some of the models on display.

Paint your Board Games - WWE Superstar Showdown

"And he kicks him in the stomach, then grabs him by the throat. He raises him high in the air, aaaand... CHOKESLAM! Big Show is the winner!"

I'm not ashamed to say it, but I like wrestling. This game was going cheap at my local game shop (by cheap, he sold it to me for cost just to get rid of it.) I was originally going to do an unboxing to appease my mick-taking friends. However they gave me a better idea, and that was to paint the models instead. So here goes - Hit my entrance music!

The Young One Pt 1

Every now and then you get to paint something that is an amazing figure from a program that you grew up watching.

Stage by Stage Guide to... painting Deathwatch (Left Arm)

Bit of a long winded title this week! I wanted to focus on painting the left arm and shoulder pad on the new Games Workshop Deathwatch Space Marines. I will try to keep it nice and quick and simple. Since this is a GW model, I will use all GW paints.

Phoenix Guard Part 1

As discussed last week I want to try a quick High elf model to see if it reignites the fire!

Safely transporting Miniatures.

Image result for destroyed model

This is the last thing we want to happen to any of our miniatures that we have spent hours on and then decided to take the plunge and take them to a competition. So what can we do there are always the cases out there to By like the Games-Workshop carry case or the ones like I have from Hobby Zone. These both have their good and bad points, but also they are not again when transporting larger models or dioramas so I have had to work out and sort a fix for this.

Age of Sigmar - Slaughterpriest

This week, I decided that I'd get back on with my Khorne Army for Age of Sigmar. This is a project that will see me through until the end of the year. I have had this Slaughterpriest on my WIP bench for a while, and this week seemed like the perfect time to finish it off.

Paint Recipes Index

Welcome to the Index page for our new paint recipes section!

Recently a group was founded on Facebook, dedicated purely to the sharing of painting recipes, from elaborate multi-glaze NMM to tricks and shortcuts for getting things on the tabletop in record time. You can find the group right here! We offered up the blog as a place to host an archive of the recipes shared - you're currently looking at the index of that very archive.

Reflections on the painting mojo

This week I'd like to return to a topic I've discussed before and share some more thoughts I've been having around my painting mojo..

Purgatory's Siren - A Closer Look

For the final A Closer Look for a little while, I had quite a choice to make. In one hand I had the new Toughest Girls in the Galaxy Freebies from Raging Heroes' second Kickstarter. In the other I had Siren from Purgatory. There are probably dozens of blogs and videos about the former already, so I'm going with Siren (whom I like more anyway ;) )

The Five Hour Painting Challenge - Scibor Dwarf

This week, may I introduce to you a new monthly feature: The Five Hour Painting Challenge!

The idea is to paint one model within a 5 hour time limit. I got the idea shortly after painting the Feral Nexus this past week (which took around 4 hours to complete). I recently subscribed to the Model Box mail order service, and was pleasantly surprised by the random selection of models I received. The Model Box I received in July had the Feral Nexus, and the Scibor Miniatures Dwarf Wild Warrior you are about to see.

ArcWorlde Unithorn from Warploque Miniatures

Last week saw me playing with my new airbrush and starting out practicing on the Unithorn from Warploque Miniatures. The practice didn't go quite to plan, so instead it became a session of playing with inks and sponge. I continued working on it this week and it's finished!

Desperation! WIP: Part 2

A bit more progress this week, we start on the cast of characters which are going to go the base..

ArcWorlde Njorsvald Preview Set - A Closer Look

As you should have heard by now, Warploque Miniatures are heading back to Kickstarter at the end of September to fund the production of their new ArcWorlde Expansion - Troubles in the North. They've taken an interesting step in releasing a small number of models that will appear in the campaign in lovely Warploque Resin. In today's A Closer Look, we'll be taking a peek at the Njorsvald Preview Set.

Feral Nexus, by Icarus Miniatures

This week, instead of churning out even more WIP shots of ongoing projects, I decided to paint a random model I received in my subscription to Model Box. For those of you that don't know what Model Box is - its a monthly subscription, whereby you receive a bunch of models, paints and accessories for the hobby. I took a punt on the one in July and got the model I have painted today.

Learning to Airbrush - First Steps

Last week I got an airbrush for my birthday - more particularly a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution so this week I've been teaching myself how to use it.
